I think I remember the earlier thread, but the link above didn't work.
The book itself is rather spotty: funny in some places, dumb in others. Much of the humour is notably dated, with 1960's references abounding.
That said, I would recommend it as being at least worth a look to the Tolkien fan. The Council of Elrond parody is to me one of the best parts.
