I also am in Gwaihir's camp -although I would never want the fate of Middle-Earth to hang on my diligence!
Thranduil would be my third and Elrond second. At the risk of a whole new thread; Gwaihir I have a hard time seeing that Gandalf ceased being a Maia when in Middle-Earth that took on limitations and had to forgo some of his powers is clear.Melian even though she married [as no other Maia is said to have done {leaving the Bombadil question aside<img src=smile.gif ALT=""> } is never as I recall mentioned as anything other than retaining her original 'race'.Her title is always Melian the Maia.
Indeed the first paragraph of the chapter on the sindar in the 1977 Silmarillion is devoted to how Melian lifted the Elves of her and Thingol's realm to the highest of any community of Elves outside of Valinor.
