On reading 'alata' I immediately thought of Alatar (the Blue Wizard, not the downer -though that was my first thought
). Maybe he's hinting that Alatar actually did do something good.
But that's not a pun, is it? The two are not related. Or are they? Is there something similar or connecteing them except coming out of the west?
