I am the LotR converter. At least ten friends of mine (none of whom knew each other well) started reading Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, either because they thought if I went on and on about it so much it must be good, to find out what I was talking about, to see if elvish really existed, because I'd forced them to see the moive with me or they just plain wanted me to shut up!
I had a little private race between them in my mind, too see who would finish first. Only four or five actually finished. Only three became as obsessed as I did. (most gave up at the Council of Elrond. that chapter never ends!)
Still, it's a pretty good record, no? At least some of my friends can now appreciate I'm not a total psychopath when I go round crying "THE PRECIOUS IS LOST" and the like. Lord of the Rings has invaded my life, really and truly........
