I assign my old and truly awfull DVD-player. . .it has always had its problems, like it would at least once per movie skip or pause as if the DVD was scratched regardless of the state of the DVD, but that I could live with.
I was watching the fellowship of the ring and it was at the very end in Lothlorien when it just stops all together, now it won't play any DVD at all.
