He may tell his reasons but two ideas have occured to me (for some reason I have given this some thought before the Night ended).
So either he was assured that I was going to hunt for
Aganzir and not
Gil or then he just wished to create some havoc when he exited. I think there was something to hint towards both of these solutions combined in his last post... If that is correct, then happily he was soo wrong about my intentions!
