Garnae was at peace. He had fulfilled his mission, he was whole, without shame or passion. He held on to Cordela tightly, and said, "It is over. The Dark Days have ended, for us. It is time for a new life."

The clearing they were in was suddenly beautiful in its twilight. He thought it would be perfect if it all ended right then, in the midst of bliss, before the woes of Men caught up with them. He kissed her again.

I wonder if I should ask it, he thought. Shall I go that far? "Er, Cordelia, can I ask you something?" he said. She nodded and looked up, eyes gleaming. "Yes?!"

"It would be great if my story ended right now. Will you ride into the sunset with me?" he asked.
