Well I figured that even the most dimwitted individual with an advanced degree in Tolkienology would know this much. Bofur was responsible for uncovering the assassination attempt on Elrond's life while in Rivendell. That's right he single handedly uncovered an underground movement named The Weaving Society, which was a secret band set on the destruction of Elrond as we know it. He delved deep into this society and broke it all up before anything could come of it but without him their diabolical plans would have come to fruition. It's not recorded in The Hobbit for the sake of the children but it is a rather obscure fact that 'true fan's ' all know.
This is one of many examples as to why Bofur is so important and exciting. He really is a super sleuth and has a high level of excitement and sex appeal.
