I like all the hobbits, and almost everybody else (problem with Tolkien: all characters are real and interesting!), but my favorite just has to be Sam. Very humble and unpretentious, but with unfathomed depths and facets, hard-working, imaginative, courageous, a great deal of common sense, sharp, honest, and loyal to beat any man's best friend!
