It was my mistake for typing Anglo-Saxon, I don't know what exactly I was thinking at the time.
I meant it was an Anglo-Norman concept, for one to be truly 'forgiven' and redeemed, they would not only have to ask for forgiveness, but have some form of compensation for their crime. Which, I read from the Haskin's Society at Cornell University.
