If The Three Hunters had followed Frodo and Sam then no Army of the Dead to take back Pelargir, and no reinforcements at Minas Tirith. However a story could have been made out of the Rescue of Frodo, but Aragorn would have been sorely missed in other places, and he would not have done the Palantir incident. Merry and Pippin would still have been saved.
