BoLT can be a tough read. Some of it is well written, some not. However, Vol. 2 contains the only telling of the fall of Gondolin. That alone makes it worthwhile. If you haven't read BoLT, you can still read the balance of HoME. One thing that is amazing is that some of the tales from the Sil. were fully in place as early as 1920. BTW, I've read UT and nearly all of HoME.
