Yes, totally agree with this point - I'll defend the parts of the movie that have changed that don't relly 'matter' - ie time line of 17 years, frodo leaving at once etc, but I will draw the line at changes that cause difficulties and inconsistencies later on - ie the power of the Ring and Sauron being able to 'see' the wearer when he puts it on (and even inconsistencies around THIS - ie weathertop, where was he then?)
