Form. He needs to go for his own good. The (pipe)weed was feeding his paranoia and had him convinced that the other Islanders were plotting to do away with him and his hallucinations have been getting out of control. Goodness only knows what he might do were he aware of the level of feeling against him out in the real world.
As soon as he leaves the Island, he will be whisked away by those that care for him and checked into a rehabilitation clinic. Poor little soul. Much like a child prodigy grown old before his time, the glare of the media spotlight really was all too much for him.
