I understand the comparison of the Ring to the Silmarils in regards to desire, yet never did it seem that the jewels
made something happen, or took some action on their own. Hate to say it, but the Silmarils were more bovine as they seemed happy just sitting around chewing their cud, whether in Fëanor hands, Morgoth's crown, the sky, sea and earth.
