You got me thinking, Bethberry. The central issue? Perhaps. There have been many claimants as to what the central issue of LotR is, from 'power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely' to 'the loss of human connection with nature' and on and on. I agree that it is a
key issue, but to say that it's the central one claims too much, I think. Unless you'd like to make a case for it....
