No, I wasn't thinking of RL dwarves (ie those with the condition dwarfism), who generally have very distinctive features, nor of RL midgets, whose heads tend to be in proportion to their bodies.
There are a number dwarf and midget actors: as you say the actor who played
Willow, Kenny Baker of Star Wars (R2D2) fame and the other actors who starred alongside Kenny Baker in
Time Bandits, for example. It would have been an option to use such actors in a film version of LotR. But they would not have looked like the Hobbits of my imagination, so I think that Jackson made the right choice.
