I agree with marroc in that Tolkien uses the Eagles as a symbol of hope. In the Battle of the Five Armies, and in Cormallen, the cry ĦEagles! ĦThe Eagles are coming! is a cry of hope, it represents that not everything is lost, that the Valar (Eagles are the messengers of Manwë) care for them and are sending their help.

In some sense, eagles remind me of the Seventh of Cavalry in westerns [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]
