hmmm . . . too bad this didn't come up sooner . . .
This really is enough for 2 games, it seems. And what we've done is started to design the 2nd game.
Here's part of a PM from Child that she sent when we were discussing Durelin's present RPG idea:
Quote:
For the past few weeks, I have been seriously thinking it would be interesting to do a game based not on the later warfare but on the earlier forging of the lesser Rings. This is why I created Lindir for the Himring game. I have always wondered at what point in their work the Elven smiths suspected something might be amiss. The fact that Celebrimbor did his work on the Elven rings in secrecy certainly suggests he knew something was not right. Of course, exactly how much he suspected about Sauron and the Rings is a matter for conjecture and can't be pushed too far. But it seems to me there had to have been a gradual but rude awakening that suggested Sauron was up to no good. That would be fascinating to trace.

I would recommend that we start at the SA 1693 point and as you say, have a prologue that details the events leading up to that year.
Let's play the game through from that point, then maybe we can persuade Child to design a game for the earlier period . . .
OR
perhaps if Durelin has not burnt herself out she would like to work on that proposal with Child
I really do think the game from SA 1693 will be enough for us to chew on and digest for now . . . it will keep all the players engaged and I think it will be a long and in depth endeavor. Starting at the very beginnings of the Rings of Power I think would stretch us too thin.
Besides . . . I have a selfish motive . . . I'm playing my first Dwarf character . . . I don't want to wait to have to play
