Assuming that terr---e/ E--e-/ stands for Terrible Elves, and with a strong suspicion as for Ta--/ -e-/ --t-/ ----/ ---r--/ hiding Tall men with long swords underneath all its -'s and /'s, I can't help assuming that Gollum spake unto Frodo and Sam, in Dead Marshes, for Dagorlad and old battle stories were what his Granny told him before his sleep. Poor Smeagol, such a trauma, to be told (I suppose, with impersonating faces all along) about all that violence in his gentle years. No wonder he grew up to become Gollum...

Having said assumption, I'm all but forced to check the guess, and have the following:

Quote:
Tall Men with long swords, and terrible Elves, and Orcses shrieking. They fought on the plain for days and months at the Black Gates. But the Marshes have grown since then, swallowed up the graves; always creeping, creeping
creepy, creepy stuff...

ahem, no need to applause, no need, I know I'm da guesser-outta thingy here
