no sign of the palantir.

Go ahead and search around in the little cave - find something old and Elven if you want to from the sunk ship.
Then, can you have Rôg surprise you by flying in as a bat and telling us we need to get back to the main cavern - Captain Luindal wants to head back to the ship before we're caught in the cave when the tide comes in.
