I also thought of this point about Gandalf's staff at the Grey Havens. I am sure that Gandalf had no staff during the battle at the Black Gate, which is why he was using his sword two-handed. I seem to remember Gandalf with yet
another staff at the Grey Havens, but I haven't checked it yet.
