HI, ever the embodiment of the little joke I was having!
Can we say "Canonicity?" I do enjoy those quotes from
Letters actually, but, as you say, there are truths to be uncovered and the 'letter' itself leaves off at Tolkien's mechanism of subcreation rather than the effect on the reader.
I hope I didn't sound like I was complaining!
