I don't have a real opinion about what they do at the oscars -- but I didn't even know most of the awards they mentioned existed (like technical editing etc.)! I suppose I'm not watching enough t.v.. hah.
Critisizing this movie and Peter Jackson was overrated from the beginning. The guy loves the books, so he made movies -- therefore, let him be! Besides, he seemed quite humble enough for someone who has so many oscars. Not that I'm a big fan.
Publicity is another fascinating thing.
