Pippin was very, very good - you almost see him maturing onscreen as he had that last conversation with Merry (the line about "WHY do you always have to LOOK?" was classic) and was brought to Denethor. The "I offer you my service" line worked in a way it really wouldn't have had it been pre-Palantir. And he sang very well, I must say . I'm not a Pippinbopper, Diamond (Faramir for me - or Merry, considering my screen name) but I can see very well how someone would be - more so that for Legolas, in fact, not that it's a big deal ).
