I used to think that too, but the problem is connecting it to Frodo. After a prologue, PJ has always cut straight to Frodo in the theatrical versions. This isn't a coincidence. The films end with Frodo as well. With so much going on, Jackson uses Frodo as the anchor. He is the central character and reminds us that the central plot is the destruction of the Ring. Starting with anyone else is distracting.<P>H.C.
