Although his near turnaround late in the books showed he may not have been <I>ALL</I> bad; I think that was more attributed to his hatrid of Saruman than any goodness on his behalf. I doubt that he regretted anything he'd done, since he knew the deal was that 'once all the men where dead' he'd take his share of the 'plunder' (you know who ).
