The books have numerous opportunities to establish Legolas's extra-keen sight without having to mention it in dialogue. Viggo is an actor who performs with such conviction that I'd be hard-pressed to find camp in any of his scenes. He can take something that should be campy and make it work. If you want camp (or cheese), head to Isengard. Whoo. I mean, I like Christopher Lee as much as the next guy, but wow.
