I would have to say that I was one of those who saw the FOTR before reading the books. But even so, I have to say Merry is my favorite character- and not just because Dominic is incredibly cute as Meriadoc. I love Merry (and Pippen) because they help add a comical aspect to the books. I also really like Eowyn's character. She goes into battle for her people, and at the same time is elegant and beautiful.
