That makes sense to me, Maril. Part of being a professional actor is being able to make a personality for yourself, so the interviews et al aren't so much random chats as part of the way you earn your bread and butter, hence the spin. Though I can't really fault him for dancing around the subject of his parents like that; would anyone really respect him more if he decided to air *all* his family's dirty laundry in the pages of nationwide magazines? I doubt too many of us would be willing to reveal everything about our families in the circumstances, even if we did make a living in a business like acting, where a huge part of it has to do with exposure like that.<P>Still, if I can indulge in voyeurism for a few more minutes, the parents do sound deeply disturbing. For his mother, think about the mentality that would make you risk EVERYTHING on your undoubtedly precocious but still very young child. Uprooting an entire family because your seven-year-old might be able to make it in acting would put quite a bit of pressure on the seven-year-old, wouldn't it? Of course they hit paydirt in this instance, but that wasn't guaranteed by any means; in fact failure was far more likely just because that's how things tend to work in that business. Mother probably has a few serious issues of her own somewhere (never been back to Iowa ONCE? Come on, I used to live in Cedar Rapids, it's not exactly a backwater hellhole). As for his father being bitter - well, I would be too, under the circs.
