LOTR has been able to reach for a broader audience but I'm afraid that the Silm. is too.... "compact" for that. <BR>I have heard a lot of people tell, how they didn't understand anything of the Silm. the first time they read the book. More people would understand it if they could see it on film, but still not enough, I fear.
