I don't think that Tolkien would be <I>insulted</I> by the movies. But I don't think he'd especially like them. It'd be hard for the writer of the books to enjoy a movie made on them, because he obviously had his idea of what the characters & places looked like in his mind, even if he never drew them out (obviously).
