I tried again some years later but only pushed through book 2 before calling it quits. A movie might actually have half a chance by cutting out much of the descriptive narration. Eddings' writings tended to be heavy on descriptive content, much more so than Tolkien. How about the Shannara series? Too akin to LOTR perhaps?
