well i hate smoking and have an allergy to cigarette smoke, which repvents me breathing in addition to asthma. in real life it is disgusting and no one should be allowed to smoke in the cinema.<P>but i have absolutely no problem with people smoking in movies. LOTR in particular- it is pasrt of them book and really nice bits of it are associated with it ie saruman stealing merry's leaf pack.<P>so many people look cool smoking in movies it would be a shame to stop it. johnny depp (even though he looks cool doing anything), benicio del toro, kevin spacey, brad pitt, ian mckellen etc etc.
