maybe not the best hero, but I do think that Fëanor showed he had the most guts when he confinced a huge host to turn away from their own gods.
Biggest hero to me is Beren. It takes something to return from the halls of Mandos and take from the one person who can even match Manwë in strength.
And legolas for lsaying a mumakil and snowboarding on it, but that is a different subject:P
