I know it was given to Galadriel by Mithrandir when he came from Valinor.

Then, Galadriel gave it to Aragorn (or to Arwen, and she to Aragorn?)

But what was the power the stone had? Did it gave Aragorn the luck he had in battle? OR WHAT?
