Drago watched in silence as Ellie walked and talked, speaking first to him, then seemingly to herself, telling the story of what happened to her in childhood. "Hospitality at the Smials" suddenly made a lot more sense.
She sat back down next to him with a slight sigh, dropping her head to her hands. Drago patted her shoulder faintly, to show that he had listened, and he sympathized.
"Well, perhaps it was for the best," he said quietly. "If they were so willing to let you go, perhaps it was best that you went. Just as I thought it was best to get away from my relatives, with their hurtful words and opinions."
Ellie made an indistinguishable sound then, then brought her face back up into view. Drago smiled at her, standing up.
"I'll wager Champignonne's gotten the soup by now," he said. "Would you like to go back downstairs?"
