Tinuiel saw Legolas move out of the corner of her eye. She turned to see Mornovarion draw his blade. She was leaning on her bow, but with a flick of her wrist, it leaped into her hand. Then, just as Rûdhchamion flew by her, she drew an arrow from her quiver. Half a moment later her arrow was fit to the string and trained on Mornovarion. The problem was that Rûdhchamion and he were struggling so violently that Tinuiel could not get a clear mark on him. The point of her arrow was moving back and forth, trying to find a clear shot, when Sauche and Legolas came up behind her.
"I can't get a clear mark," she murmured to Legolas. The three looked on helpless as Rûdhchamion struggled with Mornovarion. The wild elf seemed to have gained a monstrous strength, almost as if he were a demon, for Rûdhchamion should have been more than strong enough to overpower him. Mornovarion was now on top of Rûdhchamion, trying to strangle him, but he was so intent upon throttling Rûdhchamion, that he did not notice that Rûdhchamion had reached for his knife. The hilt came up and smashed the side of Mornovarion's face. He was thrown to the side, and finally Tinuiel had her shot. "Halt," she cried, "or that move wil be your last." Mornovarion crounched, wild eyed, muttering to himself. Tinuiel saw now fully revealed the shadow of the pain she had seen when she met the elf in the woods. Despite the fact that he had almost killed her King, she pitied him. "Mornovarion," she said in a softer tone. "I trusted you in the forest. Is this how I am repaid?"
The wild light in the elf's eyes flickered for a moment, then died. It was as if one side of him had temporarily won over the other.
