Woo, I remember reading somewhere of the "Hidden Fastness" but never knew where it lay. Thank you, Lindil, for that nugget of info. Interesting that they chose the area south of Rivendell, where Elrond's poers probably reached due to his command of the river. Makes sense to me! It affords a quick escape route to the south and the sea, if need be.
