I don't think Liol would do that. I mean, Liol would never step forward volunteerly to talk to a guard if there was any other way.

Instead, I was thinking that perhaps your character 'pushed' her forward. Once she stood there, Liol couldn't turn back. (Afterwards, I was thinking, that Liol could be a bit 'cranky' because Aldwulf set her in that position...)
Any thoughts?
