It would be simpler all around if my chara would take over the job of leading the Rangers. It is true that normally he would not be the first choice, yet we have already mentioned that he was second in command. Perhaps he was chosen by Thorgil for his leadership abilities over other Rangers.
On the point of your character getting kidnapped, Mene, I've consulted with Ibai and she confirms that the hillmen would take no prisoners, they would simply kill all villagers or Rangers they encountered.
