Here's something that I thought of when I first read the Silmarillion (but never remembered to bring up on the forum). It's an interesting thought, but a tad unsettling.
Taken from the Silmarillion-
Quote:
but Luthien was stripped of her disguise by the will of Morgoth, and he bent his gaze on her... Then Morgoth looking upon her beauty conceived in his thought an evil lust, and a design more dark than any that had yet come into his heart since he fled from Valinor... for he watched her, leaving her free for a while, and taking secret pleasure in his thought.

Is it just me, or did anyone else think "Morgoth is going to get Luthien pregnant"? Taking the most beautiful child of Eru and using her to sire offspring sounds like a "design more dark than any". Also, if this was Morgoth's intention it would then explain the attention he paid to her beauty and make the "evil lust" description really fit.
Well, now that I've said my piece, is there anyone who either agrees with this assessment or perhaps came to a different conclusion while reading?
(and if you dig up another thread on this topic please let me know)
