The funny thing about my Tolkienization is that I did not care for his books very much when I had already read a great deal of other fantasy stuff. I was well aware that especially LOTR was held as the epitome of fantasy, and mostly its origin, but for some years I thought the books would not be worth a read because I supposed they were rather old-fashioned or commercial, although I loved "The Hobbit" when we read it at school.
