No one ever talks about Cķrdan, and yet it was he who kept the Havens open so that the Elves could continue to journey to Valinor. He also gave Narya to Gandalf when he first arrived in Middle-Earth.
And don't forget Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth; Forlong the Fat of Lossarnach; Celebrķan wife of Elrond; Thranduil father of Legolas; Rśmil and Orophin, brothers of Haldir; Lobelia Sackville-Baggins; Robin Smallburrow the Shirriff; and Will Whitfoot the Mayor. All great characters who were important in their own way, but who are destined to remain unknown to those who haven't read the books.
