Now, now in defense of petticoats, they are rather practical really, surprisingly cooler than breeches. Nice thing is that if they are long enough you just take the back hem bring it forward and tuck it into the front of your waistband and you have pants, shorts even if you’d like, perfect for marshes and still socially acceptable for a middle aged hobbit (though perhaps a bit frightening to look at). Petticoats are also preferable when sleeping. You can pull your feet up and cover them with your skirts to keep bugs off and feet warm!
