Yes, it was Èomer.
My thoughts behind this were: He calls her Lady instead of sister to make it harder; he calls her a friend in battle - Gùthwine, the name of Èomer´s sword means exactly this in old English; he was later to be known as Èomer Èadig, which is old English for either the lucky one or the happy one (depends on the translation from German "der Glückliche"
; and the rest is obvious.
