Its a dirk. A short sword is shapped different, used in a different part of the world, different size, and not balanced well. Anyways I think I am the only one who has mentioned dirks in this topic.... |

Again, this is where you could use a dirk. It is short enough to be used like a daggar for back stabing/throat cutting, but long enough for a goo fight incase something goes wrong. |

The Beornings are just a race of men with a weird, inherent power. Where they came from exactly and why they are not mentioned in the Sillmarilion is even more mystirious than where Tom came from.... |

It is generally accepted to be genetic/inherrited. All Beornings could become bears, but Beorn could become a HUGE bear. I always assumed his "magic" reffered to other powers he had that were never... |

He was a man. The greatest of a race known as the Beornlings. They all had the bear changing ability to a greater or lesser extent. He was also some sort of magician. |

There are hundreds, probably thousands of Maiar. Just because Tolkien does not name every single one does not mean they did not exist. Anyways Olorin is a deciple of Nienna, not Manwe |

Oh, my signiture. "All Your Base Are Belong to Us" is a geek/conspiracy theorist type phenomenon. It was taken from the dialog of the opening sequence of a poorly translated Nintendo videogame. If... |

I don't think so One Axe. I've never heard of paintball.com. Anyways I stole this Avatar from my brothers extensive collection because I thought it was funny. Don't know where he got it. |

This sounds like a question of Strength vs. Agility. If you used a good two handed broad sword you could probably shatter a light katana with a direct blow. On the otherhand the heavier broad sword... |

Now neccesarally. The race of men in ME seemed to have started from quite a few houses with quite a few people to begin with and at first they spread out very quickly. The people in Europe, on the... |

I know thats what you meant (you wouldn't have much luck with a katana or cutlass either smilies/wink.gif ), I was just trying to point out that sword fans also have a good throwing alternative. I... |

This sounds more like a topic for the Quiz Room. If you act like you know the answer you may actually get someone to come up with it! smilies/biggrin.gif |

You guys explained that very nicely. Now I see that "mankind's keeper" is refering to the creator and not middle-earth, but I still don't understand why there seems to be a destinction between... |

Wasn't it Bilbo who named Sting Sting? I don't think that was it's original name and so I doubt that is what the runes on it say. I have heard that the runes on the Sting used in the movie sayed that... |

The sons (and daughter) of Elrond were given the same choice Elrond and Elros were given. His sons chose to be elves and went with their father, but Arwen chose to be mortal and stayed with Aragorn. |

I think the passage with the mirror of Galadrial and the descussion between Frodo and Galadrial about the rings of power make it quite obvious. Was it Vilya that allowed Elrond to floud the fords... |
