Aragorn Chubby?
Was it just me, or the outfit, or did Aragorn look like he gained a little weight in rivendell? (The scene when he's looking at the shards of Narsil, and Arwen walks up behind him.) All of a sudden he went from a lean athletic ranger to a chubby Rivendell bum. Any thoughts?
I think it was a trick of the light or due to the camera angle. He doesn't seem the type to put on any weight. As an experienced ranger and soldier, he must have known that he would probably have been on the road again soon and would know to keep in shape.<BR>Unless Arwen was being a fussy girlfriend and feeding him up.
It was probably just a lighting effect. It would be hilarious if there was a chubby Ranger running around dressed as Aragorn!
Yeah, me and my friend always poke fun at him in that part. Maybe the soon-to-be Ada in law wanted to fatten him up.
Funky. I was wondering the same thing myself.<P>I think it was because the material was different - he went from the rugged ranger look to a softer, velvety look. Usually that velvet material is light and airy, and can kinda "poof" out. And, it's cushy, so it appears the wearer has extra "padding".<P>I thought Aragorn's tummy was quite swanky. I like meat on my Rangers

Next thing you know, Viggo Mortensen will be on Oprah, talking about his fan-induced eating disorder.
It was an ugly outfit. Vigo could have pumped his upper body a bit, but since lean was his look, the wardrobe department should have noticed the unflattering pajamas. Of course, I noticed it too, but so what, he's human, (and still delicious) maybe he was slouching a bit! Oh well.....SHOULDER PADS!
His belt was up a bit to high for one thing, it made him look a little on the bulging side. Also in Rivendell, when he actually 'combs' his hair, his face looks to fat/chubby. Oh well.
Face it Rivendel is probably like a cruise ship with a midnight buffet and everything.
Let's leave the poor Ranger alone, shall we? I mean, it's not as if you get a 30-dish buffet every day in the wild. I'm sure the Dunedain are the type that pig out whenever they have the opportunity and then just go without when all they have is just an apple.
What? A buffet?! *reasons to going to Rivendell list just got longer...*<P>If there's a buffet I'd look pretty meaty too! I blame the clothes though, I hear Aragorn's on a diet anyhow...
Gosh...I noticed his bulgy tummy immediately! (It looked a little familiar! )I found this "imperfection" slightly annoying because Vigo/Aragorn is a total turn on in all ways! I wish he would have pumped up a little more, (or the wardrobe department been more "on it") He could have given it a little extra effort and developed the upper body, just for this "action" role. Vigo's acting and interpretation were so fine, a little modern macho visuals would have been a nice cheap thrill for my money! So was the head of the rangers a muscular man or lean and sinewy? I didn't like his bare feet in that scene either! <p>[ July 22, 2003: Message edited by: Liriodendron ]

Yeah, I mean he's a Ranger! He travels around Middle Earth for a living, where'd he get THAT gut! It looked kinda strange on him, but oh well, I guess.
All of this begs the question, Why does Arwen have the longest face known to man(and elf) kind? The two of them are quite a pair eh?<P>Arwen: Aragorn darling, why have you grown so...pudgy?<BR>Aragorn: Well darling, it was to offset your abnormally long face.
*lol*
never really noticed...I think it's just the lighting/clothes. High belts and fluffy velvet don't have a flattering effect on some people. But I didn't notice his bare feet before...
Hmmm, I have to say that I'm not sure if I ever noticed his bare feet either. all though I'd have to watch it <I>again</I> to make sure. Oh, well!
I didn't think he looked fat <I>at all</I>. I've met him in person and I've rarely seen anyone so fit and trim. Even more impressive considering he's what, near his 50's?<p>[ July 24, 2003: Message edited by: chucks888 ]

I believe he's 44. And no, I don't think he was fat or chubby at all...<P>Swan song,<BR>-Menelien
Not fat persay, & not overly chubby. The heightned belt just gave him a little bulg in his belly, if you know what I mean . He didn't look FAT that's for sure, just more bulgy than in other scenes...
<I>I</I> merely took it to be his outfit. I mean, a fat Ranger? C'mon, folks! He would <I>never</I> get fat or even bulked! He's Aragorn. Besides, he wasn't fat in the face. Usually if you're fat in body, you're often fat in face.<P>B.T.W. chucks888, Aragorn was 87, I believe.<p>[ July 25, 2003: Message edited by: Lily Bombadil ]

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:<HR>Aragorn was 87, I believe.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE><BR>How could an 87 year old man fight like that? I mean, he should be in a nursing home at that age!
Lol, yeah I want to be just like Aragon when I get 'up there' in age!
I hope *I* look that good as an 87 year old man! Then again, I'm a long ways away, seeing how I'm a 23 year old *woman*....<P>Anyway..... <P>Aragorn is older than Theoden in the books - yeppers, it's true. However, it's in his bloodline. Deep, deeeeep in his family lies elvish (some spell it elfish, but whatever) blood resides. That's how he can look so dern good at such a ripe age.<P>Now as for Arwen, I can't explain it. She does have an abnormally long face.<P>Aragorn:"My love, why the long face?"<BR>Arwen: "What about the lips, I have big lips."<BR>(Steven Tyler walks in):"That's your father's fault, dear."<P>The long face... kinda explains his kinship to Brego in TT.....<P>I'm <I>joking</I>, of course
I just hope it was the clothing. A round Ranger? heh heh heh....<P>Nehani
I thought he looked a little chubby in that scene as well. Kind of funny. I think it must have been some aspect of lighting or something. He looked pretty trim in the other scenes.
I can see it now. oh no theres a ranger, "oh waight its only Aragorn." Aragorn waddles over to fight "only me i show you" the robbers get up and walk away, Aragorn waddles as fast as his fat little legs can carry him weil the robbers walk camly away...
Oh my, this topic is sounding like an article in one of the tabloids!<P>It was the outfit. I would highly doubt that it was because Viggo gained a few extra pounds, he is probably naturally a thin man. Or maybe it was the first scene he did, remember he did not have much time to train because he was a replacement for that other guy, and he had not done a movie for a long while.
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:<HR> Oh my, this topic is sounding like an article in one of the tabloids! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE><P>Which is exactly what i want to do when i leave school... <P>Viggo? Gain weight??? you have got to be joking! Have you seen exactly how physical the role of Aragorn is??? Now if im mistaken, even if you did eat lots of carbo's, drink and eat fatty foods, the amount of horse riding and assoc. activities he would do that week would more then get rid of them. Horse riding works off more calories than running for hours on end. <P>Ok that was a lesson health. It was probably the costume.
I just wanted to bring this thread back to life...*hoping someone will notice it* I'm thinking that it probably is the outfit...
Well maybe he was just getting a bit of fat so he would travel better. You know that in soome realy extream conditions the people with fat last longer.....
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:<HR> Deep, deeeeep in his family lies elvish (some spell it elfish, but whatever) blood resides. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE><BR>Didn't Tolkien write something about using 'v's instead of 's's in his intro to the Hobbit?<BR>Yes, I noticed the tummy...hehehe<BR>Well, Éowyn's white dress was a little like that, only it was more of a middle tyre...no, a middle bicycle tyre perhaps...
Wow I never noticed that Aragorn was 'chubbier' until i replayed that scene hehe.. Does horse riding really do that much?? I mean, the horse is doing the running, the only thing that'll be hurting you is your backside <P>And it IS Elvish.. Tolkien despised the spelling of Elfish because it was not very aesthetic or something
