Grey and green Elves
Hi to all!
Anybody could tell me what are the origins and perhaps culture of the grey and green Elves? thanks! |
I think the grey elves are the Sindar, as in Thingol and Melian's people in the First Age. The green elvesz might be the wood elves. I may be wrong.

Yup. The Grey Elves are the Sindar. They were a branch of the Teleri who remained in Beleriand and did not complete the Great Journey. The Doriathians (Thingol's folk) and the Falathrim (Cirdan's people) were their most notable groups in the First Age. All of them were theoretically under the lordship of Thingol.
The Green Elves or Laiquendi were also Teleri but they lived in Ossiriland. They were originally ruled by Denethor, but he was killed in battle against Morgoth. After this they remained hidden in the woods and their only acts were to threaten to harass the Edain as they passed through their woods and to ambush and slaughter the Dwarves of Nogrod along with Beren after the Dwarves had sacked Doriath. They obviously did not like visitors. They always wore green, hence the name. |
To clariffy a little more on the Green Elves:
The had originally journeyed west with all the other elvish clans but lingered east of the Blue Mountains awhile, and then later entered into Beleriand. Thingol recognised them as sundered kin and it was then that they went to live in Ossiriand. As for Beren, they eventually lived in peace and high respect for him and Luthien, who dwelled on Tol Galen in Ossiriand, but this was after they returned from Mandos I believe. This is even more remarkable because at this time, the two were mortals. |
