J.R.R. Tolkien: Master of the Rings
I hope this hasn't already been mentioned, but I recently came across a dvd in Wal-Mart called J.R.R. Tolkien: Master of the Rings. It is an excellent documentary that explores all aspects of the Lord of the Rings and comes with a cd containing ten songs written about the places in Middle Earth and a booklet of drawings. I loved it, and was wondering if anybody else had found this.

I didn't see it as a DVD, but there was a PBS special with the same title a few weeks ago. Might be the same, might not--did the Frodo in it have a beard, and did Aragorn look like a girly-boy? (Otherwise it was a good documentary, with lots of Hildebrandt drawings.)

Same as Emni Windrunner, I saw something like that on TV, but then again, I haven't been in a walmart since the 3rd age. Is it the same one hobbit punk? The hobbits where obviously played by midgets?
|
Yes I have bought it and loved it! It has wonderful 3-D maps of Middle-Earth, lots of footage of J.R.R. Tolkien and 50 illustrations!
|
Yeah that sounds like the same one. They had little people as the hobbits and stuff. LOL at the girly-boy Aragorn. Is that the pic of his wedding? I don't remember, I'll just have to watch it again. And yes, it has the hilderbrant(sorry about the spelling) drawings.

Yeah the interviews with Tolkien were amazing but he is hard to understand sometimes. My stepdad attended Oxford and his friend went to a lecture by Tolkien and said that he couldn't understand a word he was saying. My stepdad actually had the chance to serve him tea one day but turned it down to go to a play rehearsal. He said he was like 20 and didn't realize the opportunity that he had missed until later on in life. I couldn't belive he had turned down a chance to have tea with him!!!!

Heh, I've got that DVD! Very cool, but I like Howard Shore's music much better than Rick Wakeman's. The documentary was cool though! And the pictures.
|
Yeah, I agree that Howard Shore's music is definately far superior. I couldn't believe that Blind Guardian wasn't mentioned as one of the performers who are very influenced by ME. Well, ok maybe I can belive that they wouldn't include a power metal band but Blind Guardian are seriously amazing!

[ April 23, 2003: Message edited by: hobbit punk ]
